Overview of Quality Assurance in Higher Education – International, National and Institutional Level

After completion of this lesson, learners will:

  • Understand various perspectives and methodologies for determining quality in higher education.
  • Recognize the significance of quality assurance (QA) systems in maintaining standards in higher education institutions (HEIs).
  • Comprehend various quality assurance methodologies, such as suitability for purpose, excellence, value for money, transformation, standard conformance, and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Examine the fundamental concepts and influence of the Bologna Process on ensuring high standards of quality across Europe.
  • Understand the roles and purposes of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR).
  • Acquire proficiency in creating and executing strong internal quality assurance rules and procedures.
  • Identify the key responsibilities of QA office representatives, including strategic planning, coordination, and promoting continuous improvement.
  • Implement the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG) for quality assurance in higher education.
  • Effectively interact with stakeholders during the quality assurance process.
  • Understand and value the importance of external quality assurance in improving institutional responsibility and standards.
